CAMBODIA
People
Nationality: Cambodians, Khmer.
Population: 13 million people
GEOGRAPHY
Cambodia is located on mainland Southeast Asia between Thailand to
the west and north and Vietnam to the east. It shares a land border
with Laos in the northeast. Cambodia has a sea coast on the Gulf of
Thailand
PEOPLE AND CULTURE
Ninety percent of Cambodia's population is ethnically Cambodian. Other
ethnic groups include Chinese, Vietnamese, hill tribes, Chams, and
Laotian. Theravada Buddhism is the religion of 95% of the population;
Islam, animism, and Christianity also are practiced. Khmer is the
official language and is spoken by more than 95% of the population.
Some French is still spoken in urban areas, and English is increasingly
popular as a second language.
Cambodia today is one of the poorest countries in the world because
of more than two decades of isolation, war and holocaust by the Khmer
Rouge. During this time period as many as 2 million men, women and
children have been killed. The war also destroyed the basic infrastructure
and social services of Cambodia. During the Killing Fields, between
1975-1979, Pol Pot eliminated most of the educated Cambodian; leaving
only the remnant of the educated, plus the majority of illiterate
farmers and widows who survived to rebuild this nation.
The population of Cambodia is about 13 million people. Only 35% of
the nation’s population over 15 years of age is literate. 5
million people or 42% of the population is under the age of 14. Cambodia’s
mortality rate of children under five is high. Almost one in every
five children dies before reaching the age of five. Due! ! to the
high birthrates and with half the female Cambodian population under
18 years of age, the current population structure contains an unusually
large percentage of young children. Now there are about 750 churches
and 40,000 Christians in Cambodia.

Japan
WIN JAPAN FOR CHRIST
But he knows the way I take; when he has tested me, I will come
forth as gold.” (Job 23:10)
Pastor Im Rok Jae and his family have been attending Vine International
Fellowship Church, which is a Japanese church that consists of 20
to 30 members, since last September to prepare for their missionary
work in Hokuoka, Japan. The Japanese congregation is delighted with
the fact that Pastor Jae is willing to go to Japan to spread the
Gospel on their behalf. VIFC has graciously offered him to lead
a small bible study group to support Pastor Jae practice Japanese.
Pastor Jae invited 35 Japanese college students in Orange County
to enlighten them of the Gospel. Recently there has been an upraises
in interest in Korea and its culture by the younger generation Japanese
people due to the increased influence of Korean dramas and actors.
We believe that this interest and openness to Korean culture will
serve as a gateway to spreading the Gospel. Even though the number
of people gathering for the revival! Meetings might be small; we
pray that every meeting will be led by the Holy Spirit.
Japan for Christ is an organization
that gathers once a month to pray fervently for the spiritual revival
in Japan like the revival that occurred in Korea in 1907. Last January,
Pastor Jae met a Japanese sister named Hiromi at a conference regarding
North Korea Mission. Through this meeting they had an opportunity
to talk and discovered that they share the same passion and vision
regarding Japan. Through sister Hiromi, Pastor Jae discovered about
a second generation Japanese Christian group that gathers frequently
to pray for the revival of the Japanese people. There sincerest
prayer is that this movement will serve as a catalyst in lighting
a fire in the hearts of Japanese people in Japan as well as in America.
Pastor Im Rok Jae works as a Home Director for GEDA/OMF (OMF is
a missionary organization that reaches out to the communist countries
like North Korea, China, and Vietnam).

South Korea
Ye Sarang Ministry in Korea is composed of people who are dedicated
to loving the Lord and spreading the Good News to people all over
the over. Ye Saran Ministry’s primary focus is on delivering
the Gospel to many foreign laborers and defectors from North Korea
to enable them to become true disciples of the Lord. Their ultimate
goal is for these disciples to go back to their own countries to
spread the Word to their own people for globalization of the Gospel.
Light of the World International Ministry’s
desire is to be the salt and light of the world by joining together
with Ye Sarang Ministry to support and encourage those that are
in dire needs. In particular, L.W.I.M. and Ye Sarang Ministry have
formed a relationship to support and enable disadvantaged children
in South Korea. Most importantly we want to enlighten these disadvantaged
children to the love of Jesus by supporting them through prayers
and financial means. Our greatest hope and prayer is for these children
to experience the love of God so that they in turn can become disciples
of the Lord and participate in accomplishing the Great Commission
to their relatives and communities around them.
